For those who are interested here is a short bibliography of some of the source materials which I have found useful in my studies.

Primary source material would include a reading of the Havamal (The High One's Words) especially verses 137 thru 163.  One of the translations I have enjoyed was Elsa-Brita Titchenell's The Masks of Odin:Wisdom of the Ancient Norse (Theosophical University Press, Pasadena, CA,1988. ISBN 0-911500-73-1).
Basis of scholarly research is still Ralph Elliott's Runes: An Introduction.  First published in 1959, it was revised and updated by the author in 1989 and is a seminal work in the area (St. Martin's Press, NYC. ISBN 0-312-034491-1).

The study of the use of esoteric runic as well as the study of the meanings and functions of each rune is best found in the work of the four following authors.  Each is excellent and I have used their concepts with effective results both in divination and magic.  These authors also have other books published as well - all of which maintain their high quality standards.
